Western Union® Prepaid Services

Western Union® Prepaid Services is a consumer-initiated cash payment solution that provides consumers with an easy and convenient way to pay for prepaid accounts such as wireless phone, local home phone service and more.

This service enables prepaid service providers to conveniently collect recurring cash payments from their consumers.

Western Union Prepaid Services allow consumers to send, recurring cash payments to a specific billing company.  Consumers are pre-enrolled by companies that offer pre-paid services.

Prepaid account information can be a 9-digit number, a 10-digit wireless number, or a 16-digit Prepaid MasterCard® number.  Some consumers may also have cards that can be swiped.  Additionally, there are some clients whose consumers will have a key word as their account information.  For example, TracFone® consumers will simply write ‘TracFone’ on the gray form and an 800 number and a PIN will print on their receipts.

To complete a Prepaid Services transaction

  1. From the Main Menu, click the Send Money (F5) button or press the F5 key.

Do one of the following:

  • If no card has been provided, click the Cancel (Esc) button to go to the Send Money menu.

  • Swipe the consumer’s Preferred Customer Card or Western Union Gold Card or type his/her Card or telephone number and then click the Search (Enter) button or press the Enter key. The 1. Transaction Details tab appears, with all areas except Financial Information and Financial Summary filled in automatically.

  1. From the Send Money Menu, click on the Prepaid button or press the F7 key.

Type the consumers account number from the gray “To send a payment – Prepaid Services” form and click the Search (Enter) button or press the Enter key. The 1. Transaction Details tab appears, with all areas except Financial Information and Financial Summary filled in automatically.

Note: Prepaid account information can be a 9-digit number, a 10-digit wireless number, or a 16-digit Prepaid MasterCard® number.  Some consumers may also have cards that can be swiped.  Additionally, there are some clients whose consumers will have a keyword as their account information.

If an incorrect card is entered, a message appears advising you “No Record Found.” Please retry the card number and click the OK button.

The following table describes each field in the 1. Transaction Details tab.

Description

Financial Information

Amount being sent and type of currency.

Using the information from the Send Money form, complete the following fields.

Send Amount -Type the dollar amount (maximum 10 numeric characters).

If any invalid characters are typed in the Send Amount field, a message appears advising you an invalid amount has been entered into the Send Amount field.  Please check the amount and re-enter.

If any invalid characters are typed in the Receive Amount field, a message appears advising you an invalid amount has been entered into the Receive Amount field.  Please check the amount and re-enter.

Receiver

This field displays the name of the company to which the payment is being sent. This information automatically populates from the account number entered.

This information automatically populates from the account number entered.

Financial Summary

Information related to the amount being sent.  These fields are filled in automatically and are not editable.

Additional Services (Alt-D)

Note: Depending on what is configured in the Agent Configuration utility, some services may not be enabled.

Customer Info (Alt-U) displays Customer Info tab. This information is required for transactions of $1,000 or more.

Promotions (Alt-P) displays Promotions tab. Available for special promotions.

  1. Type the payment amount in the Send Amount field.
  2. Click the Fee Request (Enter) button or press the Enter key.                                                                                                    The transaction fee automatically populates.
  3. Refer to the Collect Amount field on the right-hand side of the screen.  This is the total amount the consumer owes including any fees.

Collect the funds from the consumer and place the money collected in a secure area.

Return to the Main Menu.

Click the Submit (Enter) button or press the Enter key to process.

  1. A pop-up dialog box appears asking “Are you sure you want to submit this transaction?”

  1. Do one of the following:

    • Click the Yes button to submit.

    • Click the No button to cancel and return to the 2. Transaction Details tab.

A dialog box will automatically appear with a fraud warning.  Review the fraud warning and then type the amount collected in the Enter the total amount collected field.

  1. Click the OK (Enter) button to submit or the Cancel (Esc) button to cancel.

  1. Follow the instructions in the Print Instructions dialog box to print the transaction receipt.
  2. Select OK (Enter).
    The automated receipt prints and the 2. Finish tab appears.

Note: If the receipt does not print, complete the gray-shaded section of the gray “To send a payment – Prepaid Services” form.  For instructions, click Agent Send Money Form Instructions.

  1. Follow the instructions in the 2. Finish tab, then select Done (Enter).
    The Main Menu appears.
